Scones and Slayers

"Between keeping the bakery's lights on and solving murders—my new side hustle, which paid nothing—my spell skills were in a rut."

SOME SPOILER-FREE THOUGHTS: By the end of Fangs and Frenemies (book 1 in the series) I was hooked on the town of Blue Moon Bay and invested in all its residents! Book 2 did not disappoint! The story held a great pace with so many different elements to the mystery that I couldn't help but want to read and solve it as quickly as possible. A super fun read for anyone who loves a good witchy vibe.

"I've penciled in feeling guilty for tomorrow...today, I'm not thinking about consequences."

I read the first book in this series, Fangs and Frenemies, at the beginning of the month and as much as I loved it, there was so much world building at the beginning that it took me a while to really get invested in the story. But once the plot picked up and the mystery was solved, I was absolutely ready to dive into book two and see what fate had in store for our trio of supernatural ladies!

Sierra Cross has built such a dynamic supernatural small town with this series and the fact she was able to expand upon lore even further in book two is so immensely impressive to me! There was so much going on, but I never felt overwhelmed, only excited to continue to solve the mystery of the Vampire Hunters sudden appearance in Blue Moon Bay. And continuing from Hazel's POV felt like putting on my favorite sweater and cozying up in a warm blanket. I felt comforted by her narration, guiding me through her thought process and figuring out how to think like other beloved characters as well.

We got two and a half slices of romance in book two, which was a little sad for me because the allusion of Elliot pining for Hazel at the end of book two was all I could think about for the weeks between reading the titles. I loved the fun little moments between Britt and Graham juxtaposing Hazel's feeling of loneliness when she was totally crushing on two major men in her life. The Kade of it all felt a little out of nowhere since she'd basically spent all of book one being suspicious of him, and then the kiss happened so suddenly, but I was totally here for it only for them to completely self destruct a chapter later.

But ultimately, I didn't mind because I love Elliot and getting to know him better in this book only made me love him more. I need them to get together in book three or I might explode!! Especially the little Hugin' moment at the end! Swoon! So cute!

And now Gran's fate is unknown and it sounds like we're about to meet a Red Witch in book three! Total cliffhanger that I am holding onto so freaking tightly! I'm ready for what's to come!

Overall, this is a great book for readers who love supernatural murder mysteries with just the slightest bit of flirtation. Definitely recommend starting with Fangs and Frenemies, though, otherwise you might be a little lost.
