Starstruck

"For an email that had so few words, it said so much."

SOME SPOILER-FREE THOUGHTS: I beyond adored this debut novel by Ivy Dawes! The magic of Hollywood in around 300 pages! The meet cute, the hidden identity reveal, the semi-secret romance...it was everything I love about reading. I felt so transported into our main character's lives and I could not put this one down! Plus we got just enough spice to keep me kicking my toes and biting my lip. Loved, loved, loved it!

"I know I'm a bit jaded, but I like the idea of finding out if someone likes me for who I am instead of my name."

The second I saw this cover float through my Insta feed I stopped and knew it had to be my next read! And once I found out that it is a debut novel, I put down everything I was doing and dove right in. From the very first introductions I was captured by these characters: Kat is floundering to hold onto any semblance of the life she was trying to build while discovering what she actually wants and James is a guy raised in the spotlight but who wants to connect with someone for who he is, not what he has.

Their meet cute was everything I love about romcoms (and as someone who has had the privilege of working on a few sets in my day, I can't deny that I haven't day dreamed of that sort of thing happening to me), but it was everything that came after that really had me invested in their relationship and their lives.

Kate spent far too long trying to do what other people expected of her and now she's just trying to get by while figuring out where she wants her life to go. I held major sympathy for her while also total relating to her. I've been in her shoes and it sucks. Everything I'd felt in my own experience was relayed perfectly through Dawes's writing of Kat's perspective of the same situation.

And while James should be an unsympathetic character because of his status and identity, you can't help but root for him to stand up to his dad and take what he wants. Plus, it was noble of him to reveal his true identity so quickly when most of the time the mmc is too scared to tell the truth out of fear of losing the girl. I was so happy the secret identity dilemma didn't go on for too long and the final conflict came from the characters standing up for themselves vs. divulging themselves.

We also got a lot of really steamy scenes, which you know I love! Nothing too crazy, but definitely made me giddy for more. All I'll say is...FIRST CLASS FONDLING! Loved! lol

Overall, I adore this debut novel beyond reason. I already want to re-read it and / or get Roman and Jill's books (please tell me they're coming!!) asap!

This is the perfect pick up for anyone who loves rom coms, day dreams about a celebrity falling in love with you, and wishes life was more like fiction. aka me... be sure to check out Starstruck by Ivy Dawes (available on KU!) and look out for her next novel, which I hope comes very, very soon!

All My Love,

Jane-Anne
